2015 Farm Fiber Workshops

If you are interested in discovering the wonderful world of fiber, I would love to have you join me and the herd at Mountain Flower Goat Dairy.  We will start the day with a discussion of different animal fibers and their uses.  Then, we will have some hands on preparing of raw llama fiber from our very own Hawthorne Hazel.  You will learn how to hand pick, wash, and hand card the fiber to make it ready for spinning.  This is dirty work so, please wear your farm jeans or aprons are great too!

After all that preparing work, I’ll refresh you with some yummy snacks.  Then we’ll grab some iced tea, settle on down and learn how to make yarn using hand spindles.  I will also show a variety of plying techniques on the spinning wheel and discuss the making of art yarns.

All students will receive a supply bag that contains a hand spindle and already prepared fibers to play with in class and take home with them.  I will also be providing handouts of useful terms and resources.
